Lord Corpse, also referred to as "Tod Schatten," "Lord Cadaver," the "King of Necrophilia," or simply "The Count," is both a Creator as well as a Frankenstein; he's the founder and leader of the terrorist organization Blitz Guruda, which seeks to wipe out all humans and create a world in which only Frankenstein exist. Lord Corpse is also the last of the Ultimate Eight series of Frankenstein produced by Doktor Richter, possessing the "Specialized Regenerative System."

Due to his actions throughout Embalming - Another Tale of Frankenstein, Lord Corpse is the primary antagonist of the series.

Backstory[]

Several years before the start of the story, Lord Corpse was an orphaning working as a grave keeper and assistant for a unknown Frankenstein Creator who discovered him abandoned in a cemetery.

The man would give him the name "Tod Schatten" from the tombstone he'd found him on as a baby.

Eventually, the Frankenstein Creator took note of Tod's prodigal talent for building and maintaining Frankensteins and eventually adopted the young man and welcoming him into his family.

However, despite all the warmth and kindness the family showed him, Tod felt nothing but disgust and hatred towards them, eventually leading him to brutally murder all of them in cold-blood which led to his arrest; despite his crimes though, Doktor Richter would later have Tod released and made one of his assistant due to his exceptional skills.

After some time, Schatten would discover John Doe's body and bring it before Dr. Richter who planned to use it to create the Specialized Circulatory System Frankenstein, despite the higher ups orders. Later on, Tod would later use this information to blackmail Richter into making him a Frankenstein; more specifically, one of the Ultimate Eight. He did this due to his belief that Frankensteins were superior to humans, therefore he wanted to become a Frankenstein; however, Tod requested Richter only use his brain during the procedure as he considered his normal human body "ugly."

Tod, despite knowing he'd potentially lose his original memories and/or personality, believed his new powers would allow him to achieve his dream of a world filled with only Frankensteins.

After all was said and done, Tod Schatten was no more and all that remained was "Lord Corpse" who would go onto found Blitz Guruda, forming his own army of Frankenstein in his aim to create a "paradise of corpses".

Appearance[]

When he was a normal human, Tod's appearance was like that of a small child, his mouth was large and full of sharp teeth and he had long, black hair which covered his uncanny-looking eyes. He also had a tendency to sweat a lot.

As a Frankenstein, Lord Corpse still has weird-looking eyes and long, black hair though now he's much taller and he lacks his original sharp teeth.

He's usually dresses in an all white suit with a matching top hat and a piece of cloth attaching a crest in the shape of the kanji for "death" as well as carrying a skull-shaped cane with him at all times.

Personality[]

When he was still alive, Tod Schatten was (like many other Creators) obsessed with the making of Frankensteins. But, unlike the rest of them, Tod saw Frankensteins as more than just products or tools, he saw them as the future of mankind that would one day stand atop humans themselves; in other words, Tod thought of Frankensteins as being superior to humans.

Tod loved corpses and Frankensteins to the point of wishing he was born a corpse and having a desire to become a Frankenstein himself. However, it's revealed later on that Tod's love for corpses originated from his deep-seated hatred of himself, specifically due to his face and body. This hatred festered and mutated overtime to where he twisted "I hate myself" to "I hate humans" and eventually it morphed from "I hate humans" to "I love corpses." Besides hating his own face and body, Tod also hated warmth as it made him feel sick and being touched by the warmth of humans made him feel like he was going to rot.

Due to his self-hatred, Tod suffers from an inferiority complex and assumes people around him despised him, thinking he was a freak and a pervert, indicating that he might've also suffered from some kind of paranoid delusions. Tod also possibly had an anxiety disorder as well due to him constantly being shown in a nervous sweat, coupled with all of his negative thoughts about himself and the people around him, it's likely the main reason why he could only befriend corpses.

After becoming Lord Corpse, Tod personality went through a lot of changes. Due to his new appearance, his hatred towards himself no longer exists nor did his inferiority complex or any of his other insecurities. With his inferiority complex gone and his goal of becoming a Frankenstein achieved, his previously meek and skittish attitude was replace by a personality full of charisma and confidence, turning him into a reliable leader.

However, despite the many changes to his personality, Lord Corpse still retained his love for dead bodies and Frankenstein; in fact, it seems as though his admiration for them had grown into full-blown obsession. In his current form, he has a constant desire to turn any human he sees into a corpse and then make said corpse into a Frankenstein; this behavior is due to his dream of creating a "paradise of corpses" which, obviously, will require a high number of deaths.

Lord Corpse also retains his belief in the superiority of Frankenstein, as well as the notion that human beings are inferior to them in all regards. However, despite his claims of loving all things dead, Corpse appears to only care about individual Frankenstein in so far as they are useful to his plans and/or loyal to him. Truth be told, Lord Corpse can be just as cruel and heartless towards his fellow Frankenstein as he can be to his human adversaries; manipulating them in all manner of ways in order to ensure that he maintains absolute control over them, such as the time when he used hypnosis to control Tigerlily's memories into believing she was his loving subordinate or when he placed Scavenger in a perpetual state of starvation in order to make him obey his commands.

However, despite all his confidence and his belief in his own superiority, Lord Corpse was ultimately a coward; one who (in spite of all his talk about loving death and corpses) was just as scared of dying as any other person, so much so that he even shamefully begged and pleaded for John Doe to spare his life.

Skills and Abilities[]

Frankenstein Creation: Lord corpse is one of the best Frankensteins Creators in the world, with his only superiors being Doktor Richter, Hildegard Peaberry, and Victor Von Frankenstein himself. He's able to create and modify dozens of Frankensteins as well as do maintenance and repairs on highly advanced ones, like those within the Ultimate Eight. Later on in the series, he's even managed to recreate the Specialized Systems of the Ultimate Eight but with enhancing capabilities. He was even able to his own original plug bolt when he was still just a child, a feat that made even the experienced Frankenstein Creator who took him in call him a genius.

Flash Point Hypnosis: Through the skull in his cane, Lord Corpse can replicate the effects of Tigerlily Coffin's "Flash Point Hypnosis, allowing him to hypnotizing people himself. However, he only used this move once in order to make Tigerlily obey him without hesitation.

Bacteria Frankenstein: Installed within his body by Dr. Richter, Lord Corpse possesses a pathogen that can be activated with a single command. It is contagious, lethal and antiseptic, with all three of these properties acting not only simultaneously, but instantly as well. To put into perspective just how deadly this bacteria is, Lord Corpse was capable of killing a massive number of people (both human and Frankenstein) over a wide radius in mere seconds.

Specialized Regenerative System: Lord Corpse can manipulate the "Omnipotent Cells" which make up his being, giving him the ability to regenerate his entire body from only his brain. Using his Specialized Regenerative System, Lord Corpse can also form a mass of cells that he calls "Death Lumps" which can take in the cells of other creatures to use as nutrients and turn into any kind of biological tissue; even being able to mimic the skills and abilities of other Specialized Frankenstein.

  • Exoskeleton - Super High Density Bone!! & Ungeheuer - Super Reinforced Muscle Fibers!!: Lord Corpse harnesses the unique abilities of both the Specialized Skeletal and Muscular Systems, combining them together in order to increase his physical strength and defense. Using this ability, Lord Corpse was capable of easily overpowering someone as physically strong as John Doe.
  • Tigerlily - Ray Eye: Much like Tigerlily, Lord Corpse is capable of filling the inside of an eyeball with Galvanic Current and raising the voltage builds-up immense energy until it's released all at once as a laser beam. However, unlike Tigerlily, Lord Corpse does not have to replace his eye after every use and can instead simply regenerate his damaged one back to normally, allowing him to attack multiple times in a row.
  • Ripper Hopper - Respiratory System-Specialized!!: Lord corpse uses Ripper Hopper unique abilities to generate powerful hurricane force winds for high-speed flight or to release tornado-like attacks.

Oneshot Version[]

Lord Corpse in the first Oneshot of the series, while physically indistinguishable from his manga self, is considerably different.

In terms of personality, while he still has an obsession with making Frankensteins, the Count only really sees them as a means to an end; being more interested in maintaining and strengthening his hold over the village he's occupying and expanding his overall influence in a mad pursuit for wealth and power. He also maintains his manga counterpart's arrogance and sadism, relishing in the pain and misery his creations bring upon the villager living near his laboratory as well as the fanatical devotion of his Frankensteins. Of course, when his most powerful Frankenstein, Zapper is defeated by John Doe, Lord Corpse's confidence quickly crumbles away and he becomes little more then a sniveling wimp that can only pathetically beg the stray Frankenstein and Little Rose to spare his life.

Plotwise, unlike Lord Corpse from the main series, this version isn't a Frankenstein but simply another Creator who took over a village constantly surrounded by thunderstorms to help in his production of Frankenstein. Eventually, after he'd spread enough fear and terror, John Doe and Little Rose were hired to kill him and his Frankensteins by a local noblewoman, Marigold, who'd lost both her family and even her legs due to his tyranny. Following a brief struggle against his Frankensteins, the duo successfully manage to kill the Count and leave with their payment in tow following Marigold's passing now that her family's killer was dead and gone.

Lord Corpse in the Oneshot is also much weaker due to not being a Frankenstein. While he did have a copy of Dr. Frankenstein's notebook, allowing him to manufacture a whole army of Frankensteins, Lord Corpse only seemed to be slightly more skilled then your average Creators as the Frankenstein he built lacked any special properties beyond the standard extra limbs or increased strength. It seemed the Count's main attribute in the Oneshot was being a charismatic and savvy businessmen such as paying off law enforcement in assisting him in gathering materials, luring in wealthy capitalist to help fund his research as well as convincing politicians and aristocrats in neighboring villages to turn a blind eye, further strengthening his grip on the village.

Creations[]

Oneshot Only[]

  • Policeman Frankenstein: A Frankenstein who appeared only in the Oneshot, they appeared to be two men in police uniforms who'd been fused together, sharing one set of legs but having two torsos, two heads, and four arms. While his abilities were never shown as they were taken out offscreen by John, Lord Cadaver stated they were skilled combatants; capable of wielding both firearms and batons simultaneously.
  • 48 Unnamed Frankenstein: As stated by Marigold, Lord Corpse had a total of 50 Frankenstein under his command. After one of them [Policeman Frankenstein] was destroyed by John Doe, this number was reduced to 49 before soon being reduced further until only the Count's powerful creation, Zapper was left.
  • Zapper: A Frankenstein who appeared only in the Oneshot, Zapper was created using the muscle fibers of a hundred carefully selected men, not only did this grant Zapper superhuman levels of strength, but it also enabled him to wield a large broadsword with one hand. The Oneshot version of Lord Corpse was very confident in his power, even going as far as to say Zapper was the strongest of all Frankensteins, but John Doe quickly proved this idea wrong.

Main Series[]

  • Black Skull: A mere foot solider that was easily defeated by Dr. Peaberry and used as a disguise, Black Skull was a member of Blitz Guruda (as evident by the kanji on his electrodes) though it was never confirmed whether he was actually created by Lord Corpse personally or not.
  • The Trio: Three unnamed Frankensteins that were sent to capture the Frankenstein of Mary Jane Kelly. Due to having the Blitz Guruda electrodes, it can be assumed they were all either built by The Count or were Stray Frankenstein brought into his army. All three of them would end up meeting their ends at the hands of Fury Flatliner who attacked and destroyed all of them in a rage after witnessing their slaughter of Edel Violet Kelly's mudlark friends.
    Trio

The Trio: Spitting (Left), Brain (Center), and Axe (Right).

    • Axe Frankenstein: A strange-looking Frankenstein, he lacks a proper head with his face being on his torso. He possesses enhanced muscles, granting him enough strength to wield a 1-ton axe in combat.
    • Splitting Frankenstein: A spiky, light-haired Frankenstein with odd eyes and bolts for ears. This Frankenstein had a body that could break apart, fly around, and reassemble; likely through some kind of electromagnetism.
    • Brain Frankenstein: A well-dressed Frankenstein with a moustache and top hat which conceal his true form of a brain with arms and legs. Due to the size of his brain (which takes up the whole of his top hat) and the fact he seemed to be the leader of the group, he likely possessed some kind of enhanced intelligence.

Blitz Guruda Frankensteins: Lord Corpse produced and/or convinced innumerable Frankensteins into his personal army, even giving them his own personally made plug bolts, notable for having the Kanji for "death" written on them.

Trivial[]

  • The "Omnipotent Cells" are likely in reference to Stem cells which can differentiate into various other kinds of cells.
  • "Tod Schatten" means "Death Shadow," although the two words together don't actually mean that (or anything) in German.
